When you can tear yourself away, it's a short walk down to town, less than 300 metres - where you can take a boat trip around the bay, explore the museum ship The Golden Hind, or try crabbing off the harbour wall. Wander half a mile up the coast to Breakwater Beach for a spot of paddling or walk right along the half-mile breakwater for a taste of the ocean without getting your feet wet. Sandy beaches and kids' attractions at Paignton such as the water park and zoo are an easy 6-mile trip, and there are two National Trust houses to explore within 5 miles of the house. History-lovers should head to Dartmouth which has some charming galleries, museums and buildings, as well as a 14th-century castle.
