Excellent Embleton Retreat

For a quiet Northumberland trip as a couple or solo traveller, book a stay at this charming stone-built cottage in Embleton. The quaint village has a welcoming community feel, with two lovely pubs, a Post Office and a general store. It’s in a convenient location just 1 mile from the coast. Absorb some fresh air and tranquillity in the adjacent nature reserve or challenge your loved one to a round of golf at the course 0.5 miles away. When you’re tired and ready to rest, head home to your cosy abode for a home-cooked meal, prepared using fresh herbs from the shared garden.

This traditional home has been modernised to a high standard, starting with its cosy lounge, complete with two comfortable sofas and a warming gas fire for those chilly nights. Spend a quiet evening watching the Smart TV or reading, then head upstairs to the comfortable double bedroom where two windows overlook the adjacent rooftops. The bright and airy kitchen/diner is also on the first floor and features a space-saving breakfast bar for enjoying meals. The contemporary shower room completes the layout. Outside, a quaint patio area is equipped with a bistro table and chairs for fresh-air meals or morning coffee. You’ll also have access to a shared, lawned and furnished garden at the front of the house.

Pack a treat-filled picnic and wander down to the coast for paddling, rock pooling and stretching out on the sand. You can pick up the Northumberland Coast Path from here, with spectacular views guaranteed. At Craster (3 miles) you can tuck into local seafood, while at Seahouses (7.5 miles) you can board a boat to the wildlife-rich Farne Islands. Inland, Alnwick Castle and Gardens (7 miles) is wonderful for ambling, eating and taking guided tours. If you’re a Harry Potter film, the castle is a must – it was used as a location for the films.
