With spectacular views over Kenmare Bay to the Beara Peninsula, this mountainside farmhouse is an idyllic bolthole for a party of four and one dog. Visit the vibrant village of Sneem, explore Kerry by car, walk the Kerry Way or, when you want a dip in the ocean, drive to Derrynane Beach.
Located on the slopes of Coomcallee Mountain, this secluded stone dwelling delivers an authentic, getaway-from-it-all holiday experience. Surrounded by the colours of nature, it's the perfect setting for a laid-back break, while inside, the focus is firmly on comfort from the moment you arrive. Emphasising the welcoming, home-from-home feel, there's an open fire in each of the two ground-floor living spaces. In the kitchen, this sits within a feature stone fireplace close to the dining suite, while all the chef's essentials are at hand to ensure fuss-free home cooking. In the lounge, a sofa and armchairs are positioned before a period fire surround and hearth; settle down with the dog at your feet to watch TV and plan your next day's adventures. A staircase leads from the kitchen to the first floor, where you'll find two bedrooms – one with a double bed and the other with two singles – plus a traditional family-style bathroom. Outside, a gravel driveway sweeps up to the front door; garden furniture to one side offers somewhere to sit, eat, and drink in the stunning views over the countryside, bay, and mountains beyond. A shed houses handy laundry equipment to complete the convenience of your stay.
Just 6 miles away, Sneem is on both the Ring of Kerry and Wild Atlantic Way – visit to discover colourful cottages, welcoming shops, eateries and inns and a sculpture trail filled with works from around the world. You can also set out for walks on the Kerry Way from here; at 133 miles, it's Ireland's longest signposted hiking trail. Try horse riding, tennis, golf and deep sea fishing at Parknasilla (8 miles) or get toes and paws wet with a trip to beautiful Derrynane Beach (less than 11 miles), where a dune-backed crescent of white sand overlooks Abbey Island with its ancient burial ground and medieval church ruins.
